This past weekend, my family and I enjoyed a wonderful three-day weekend with our college friends and fellow alumni in Richmond, Virginia.  Together, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Virginia Commonwealth University African-American Alumni Council’s Farewell/Fellowship Breakfast.  It is the culmination of multiple activities from Friday morning to Sunday morning.

During the annual fellowship/farewell breakfast, we sing praise songs, pray together, enjoy an excellent meal, hear the Word from one of the dynamic preachers (classmates) amongst us, and celebrate the lives of those alumni who died since we last met one year earlier.  It is truly a meaningful event for all who regularly attend.

This year, our guest preacher, oneof my fraternity line brothers from 1979, shared a moving message about getting to know Jesus.  From the book of Luke, chapter 23, Minister spoke from his heart about how God changed his life from a womanizer to a man of God with a divine call on his life.  He reminded us that Jesus died for us according to God’s plan.  Throughout the 23rd chapter of Luke, we read in the scripture there was a man who died “in” his sins, another died “to” his sins, and ultimately Jesus died “for” our sins.  In the end, one of the sinners recognize that indeed Jesus was the Son of God.

Get to know Him today. He is the truth, the way and the life and is awaiting on you to call upon His name so that you can be saved (Romans 10:9-13).

Today, millions of people will celebrate “Earth Day,” being mindful 0f our vast natural resources and utilizing multiple strategies to attempt to preserve them.

God’s word teaches us that “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; and they that dwell therein.” – Psalm 24:1

Simply put, we are to recognize and acknowledge that God created ALL things, including this earth, as well as its inhabitants (us). He owns it, but we are His trusted stewarts. To this end, we will be held accountable based upon how we choose to cultivate, care, and provide for where we live and how we live.

As you celebrate today, remember to treat yourself, others, as well as this earth, in a manner that is worthy of glorifying God in heaven.  Afterall, we are His represents in the earth.

The gift of writing a best-selling book series – Give God the Glory! – has developed into something much bigger over the past seven years: Serving others. The Apostle Paul taught this simple, yet effective, principle to the saints at Philippi:

”Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

(Philippians 2:4 – NIV).

His service was also personified through four mission journeys throughout Asia Minor and Macedonia as he established several local churches, encouraged their growth and development through epistles, and mentored young pastors.

Looking at Paul’s life, particularly after his conversion on Damascus Road, I marvel at how God uses ordinary folks to accomplish extraordinary things by the orchestration of the Holy Spirit.  That said, “writing for the lord” for the past seven years has led me down a phenomenal path that has broadened into an unprecedented number of opportunities, both locally and internationally.  Amongst them include preaching at selected churches several times per year upon request, teaching at numerous writers conferences, receiving annual royalties from the copyright clearance center, earning 16 literary awards for literary excellence, generating global sales, translation of selected books into foreign languages, cultivating great relationships with publishing industry professionals, enjoying  the fulfillment that comes in response to the call upon my life, and moving toward e-books as a viable alternative to print books only.

Given the new wave of technological advances across the industry, and the soon-to-be transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0, it is incumbent upon authors, writers, and publishers to keep pace with today’s consumer.  Smart authors/publishers will heed the three key market dynamics shaping today’s book-buying behavior. For example, did you know that e-book sales increased 50% in the past year?

1. The economy and the resulting decline of book purchasing.  Book buyers as a percentage of the U.S. population dropped below 50% for the first time ever 2008.

2. Reading’s competition for our leisure time with the ever-growing choices available. Last year, online activities even surpassed television viewing as the No. 1 leisure activity among American adults, who now spend on average more than 15 hours per week online. Reading books comes in at a paltry 5.5 hours per week.

3. The migration of product formats.  E-book sales are sharply increasing as hardcover, paperback, and mass market sales are all down.  The Amazon Kindle Store includes more than 440,000 books, the Sony e-Reader offers users access to more than 1,000,000 e-books, and Barnes and Noble Nook offers more than 1,000,000 titles.  Further, at the end of 2009, Amazon.com announced that its Kindle e-readers had become the most gifted item in Amazon’s history.  On its peak day of the holiday season (December 14, 2009), Amazon customers ordered more than 9.5 million item worldwide – a record-breaking 110 items per second.

I serve others through shared knowledge of industry trends.  Take advantage today and advance your publishing program to new levels!!

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

Philippians 2:4 (KJV)

The leadership team of the National Association of the Church of God Men’s Ministry spent this past weekend in St. Louis, MO at the New Cote Brilliante Church of God for our first quarterly men’s rally. I serve as National Secretary and along with my distinguished brethen on the leadership team, we shared our mission and vision to eradicate the current trend in which 7 out of 10 boys and girls go to bed each night without a daddy in the home.  To achieve our goal in closing this devastating and evil occurrence, we are traveling the country to 4 key regions – midwest (St. Louis), northeast (New York), south (Orlando), and west (Los Angeles) – in 2010 to partner with several local churches and to solicit their help.

This past weekend, five local churches were represented at our first men’s rally. Simply put, we shared information about how to create and maintain a successful men’s ministry, principles of mentoring, and strategies to capture our 19-25 year old young men (this age group historically gets forgotten relative to nurturing, encouragement, and Godly inspiration).

The five local churches represented at the men’s rally will send the national leadership team their respective action plans within 30 days.  Upon review and approval of these plans, we would have successfully moved closer to our goal: To save the next generation of God’s children…

Enjoy God’s blessings!

This weekend, the entire world is celebrating the birth, life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In a nutshell, the gospel of Jesus Christ is captured in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4:

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” (KJV)

We celebrate the life of Jesus for the following reasons:

(1) He is love: 1 John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another: For love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”

(2) He came to seek and to save those who are lost: Luke 19:10

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

(3) He came to save mankind: Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name Lord shall be saved.”

(4) He came to forgive us for our sins: 1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If you do not have a relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, call upon Him today.  All it takes is a simple request; Not a long-winded story, testimony, or explanation.  He desperately wants to call you His child and demonstrate to you that He is the way, the truth, and the life ( John 14:6).  What better time than now??
