One word summarizes my 2-week experience at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London: Amazing!!

Following our first Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta, the Johnson Family saw fit to see the glory of God at work in the lives of thousands of world-class athletes representing over 100 countries from across the globe.

As a family, we were (individually and collectively) able to witness the world’s best athletes at various massive venues at the following events: Men’s boxing, women’s marathon, women’s triathlon, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball (twice), rowing, men’s team gold medal match in table tennis, and the final evening of track and field (six events and six medal ceremonies), where two world records fell.

These Games were particularly memorable as history will record the following “first’s”:

– introduction of women’s boxing,

– Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and one other country allowed their women citizen’s to compete,

– Grenada earned their first gold medal in the men’s 800 run

– A double-ampute from South Africa competed with “able-body” athletes in the men’s 400 meter run

– An African-American USA gymnast earned gold medals in individual and team competition

– Usain Bolt repeated as the gold medalist in the men’s 200 meter sprint

– Michael Phelps became the most decorated athlete in the 116-year history of the Olympic Games. He also repeated as the gold medalist, for three consecutive Olympic Games, in the 200 meter butterfly

– The USA 4×100 women’s relay team eclipsed the 30-year old world record

– Uganda earned their second gold medal ever (since 1996) in the men’s marathon, the final event of the Games

– Turkey earned the gold and silver medals in the women’s 1500 meter run.

There is no doubt in my mind that every athlete chosen to represent their respective countries are gifted. What we witnessed over the past two weeks was God’s work on display for the world to witness. Besides that, the volunteers, organizers, sports facilities, transportation, BBC network live television coverage, exhibits, museums, security, and the vast array of thousands of spectators were equally awesome.

I am most thankful that my teenaged sons had the opportunity to actively participate and that my lovely wife jumped for joy everyday while shopping at the Harrod’s department store (smile).

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights – James 1:17

Today, my family and I just completed our first full week in London England for the summer games.  What a joy and blessing to be in the midst of thousands of brothers and sisters from around the globe.

On last Sunday, I preached about having a proper attitude at the Christ Apostolic Church of God Mission – The Truth Center – in the Stratford section of London during their 11:00am service, had lunch with Pastor Friday and his lovely wife amd family, then walked to Olympic Park with my two older sons. This past week, we enjoyed visits to the USA, Czech Republic, and Africa houses, along with the rowing, boxing. women’s triathlon, and women’s basketball venues. We are meeting Christians from all parts of the world and being hosted by our friends at the England branch of the Seventh-Day Adventist headquarters.

This coming week, we intend to visit the Olympic museum, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and attend several sporting venues. All told, I see the glory of God when I see His creation: His people that are representing over 100 countries during these 2012 Summer Olympics. God is good and worthy to be praised!

Psalm 150:1-2 -> Praise the Lord! Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
